Sidmouth FolkWeek (2nd – 9th August 2013) brings the very finest in roots music to East Devon's beautiful coastal resort. Just some of the highlights for any festival goer's ideal holiday include: the legendary Nic Jones Trio, new festival patrons Show of Hands, enigmatic Australian choir Spooky Men's Chorale, Celtic giants Capercaillie, music from the Atlantic fringe from The Unwanted, first lady of folk Maddy Prior, energetic Quebecois roots of Le Vent du Nord, string masters Alasdair Fraser & Natalie Haas, breathtaking Flook, singing fiddler supergroup Carthy, Hardy, Farrell & Young, the fusion of original Irish dance and new music in Sciorr:Staged, the mighty Lau, big- hearted Celtic fusionistas Peatbog Faeries, dance-band trailblazers Blowzabella and the joyful Jaipur Kawa Brass Band. And that's just scraping the surface of all that's on offer!
Pre-festival specials: a concert version of Private Peaceful performed as a unique reading by celebrated children's author Michael Morpurgo with songs from harmonic tour de force Coope, Boyes & Simpdon (2nd Aug) and Twitter Titters – the new show from comedy writer, performer and national treasure Barry Cryer, accompanied by Colin Sell (1st Aug).
As well as top-drawer concert acts, the week offers a 'something for everyone' promise! We've got ceilidhs, dances, intimate concerts, a comprehensive workshop programme, fantastic family fun, in spiring youth sessions, traditional music events, special shows, dance displays, informal sessions...and a dramatic torchlight procession!
