How to Build a DIY Street Go-Kart

Sunday, 30th September 2012

As kids, the guys at Rapanui Clothing were downhill skaters. Addicted to speed, they began building a one-design vehicle: a cross between a street luge, skateboard and go-kart, allowing them to bomb down hills and drift around corners. They say it's about as close to real life mario-karting as is possible to get.

The craze exploded, with other downhill go-karter crews sprouting up in neighbouring towns. As cash-strapped youngsters, they decided to sell the product as a flatpack version. They also supplied the DIY plans but in the end, the patents office wouldn't take it seriously and the idea fizzled out.

Now with this video, they share their design and show you how to make your very own DIY street go-kart. Enjoy!
