Liftshare week 2012, 1-5 October
2012 has seen a significant increase in the number of drivers wishing to travel more sustainably.
In the first eight months of this year, 30,839 people got in touch with others driving their way on liftshare.com, inviting them to car-share. This compares to 26,741 during the same period in 2011 – a 15% increase.
"Petrol prices have had a big impact on the number of people signing up to try lift-sharing, but about 75% of liftshare members also give the environment as one of their main reasons for sharing," said Cecilia Bromley-Martin of liftshare.
Try Liftsharing and become part of a growing community
liftshare Week is 1-5 October. Last year's campaign was so successful - with over 6,200 people signing up to try lift-sharing in just five days - that it won the 2012 EU Sustainability Week Award for Travelling.
"It can be quite an eye-opener to discover how much of your carbon footprint can actually be reduced by sharing your daily commute," said Cecilia. "An easy way of calculating this is using the liftshareSavings Calculator – it often helps people decide they no longer wish to drive alone!"
