The natural swimming pool is a beautiful dream that many of us wish to obtain.
To swim in its cool waters, without the harsh chemicals of a conventional pool, knowing that your pool is part of an ecosystem, encouraging wildlife.
David Pagan Butler has been building these natural pools for over a decade, beginning with his very own after his young son developed eczema from his swimming lessons in a conventional chlorine pool.
David has experimented over the years, ending up with a workable design that suits all types of pools. From large pools, and small plunge ponds, to converting conventional pools. He is passionate about natural pools and wants as many people as possible to reap the benefits from them.
How the pools work
A natural swimming pool has no chemicals added to it to stay clean. Instead, a specific mix of plants are incorporated into the design, which become part of the natural filtration system. The floating filter
Over the last four years, David has been working on the floating filter, OLIVE. It is a self-contained, bubble powered filter using entirely natural processes to clean the water.
This is the first floating bio-filtration system to be created. It works using three types of filters - vortex, mesh and a biological filter - simultaneously. The water travels into the filter, where the vortex seperates it from any floating debris like seeds, which are then sent to the mesh filter. Cleaned water then passes to the bio-filtration filter, where billions of beneficial micro-organisms remove impurities. Plants can also be grown in this filter, with anti-bacterial species being of additional benefit.
It is powered by the air with a remote compressor, which means it is completely safe in the water.
The floating OLIVE filter makes a natural swimming pool easier to create and maintain.
David has created the prototype, and now needs your help to start production. To find out more and to donate to the crowd funding, visit www.indiegogo.com/projects/olive-natural-swimming-pool-filter-environment#/
