Colette O'Neill bought Bealtaine Cottage 13 years ago in Ireland. The 3 acre plot was a monoculture field, like the neighbouring properties.
After 13 years of sowing, planting and caring, Colette has created a biodiverse habitat that also provides her with food.
Just the driveway is an abundant mix of canopy, understorey and groundcover. From beech and bamboo, to young oak and rowan, colourful fuschia, and bee-friendly and delicious rubus.
The land around the cottage incorporates a forest garden, a polytunnel, compost areas and pottager beds. There's apple trees and jostaberries, with currants below.
The pottager beds hold kale, tomatoes, peas and courgette, the polytunnel homes nectarines and cucumber, and the patio has potted herbs.
This is a forest of life, that Colette and mother nature have created.
It is truly inspirational.
