Eco-friendly transport built from local and sustainable material.

The Ghana Bamboo Bike Initiative, based in Kumasi, build bicyles from locally grown bamboo. For every bamboo plant they use, they plant another 10.

Founder Bernice Dapaah, wanted to create a product from local materials which led her to the bicycle. The initiative have already trained more than 35 young people and are providing employment for people in the community. They also donate bicyles to local children who have to travel miles to school.

This is a great example of how a local material can be used for a day-to-day object.
